Lima’s historic center: a vivid mirror of heritage, contemporary design, and city life.

Capital: A Tale of Two Cities

Capital: Lima’s Urban Reflections is an award‑winning series that captures the contrasts of Peru’s historic center. The project portrays downtown Lima as a canvas of time and movement, where colonial facades, early 20th‑century balconies, and bustling streets merge in a single frame. Each photograph weaves these elements into a seamless visual story of heritage and change.
Captured under crisp daylight and clear skies, each frame reveals past and present converging on the same street.

Visual Approach & Storytelling

Guided by mirrors, windows, and rain‑kissed puddles, I craft images that layer reality and reflection. Additionally, I use tight framing and selective focus to highlight unexpected juxtapositions—modern signboards overlapping baroque arches, passing crowds caught in glass. This method reveals Lima’s evolving identity through spontaneous, poetic collisions of form, color, and motion.

Urban Perspectives in Motion

Downtown Lima functions as a living stage where commerce and history intersect. Through controlled distortions, an LED billboard can flow across a centuries‑old balcony in one shot. Moreover, candid scenes—vendors hawking wares, tuktuks weaving through traffic—blend into reflective surfaces.
By isolating mirrors and glass, I let people and architecture merge into layered compositions. This technique emphasizes how motion and stillness coexist in Lima’s urban pulse.

Reflections as a Visual Archive

Unlike a static documentary, this series freezes ephemeral urban moments before they vanish. Every photo archives fleeting scenes—walls soon to be painted over or façades set for renovation. Furthermore, the interplay of glass and water transforms ordinary views into poetic double exposures.
In this way, reflections serve as a visible archive, recording the city’s shifting moods for future rediscovery.

Capital: Heritage & Modernity in Harmony

Lima’s UNESCO‑listed churches and early 1900s balconies speak of a storied past. Today, they stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder with neon signs and modern storefronts. Ultimately, Capital: Lima’s Urban Reflections highlights the ongoing negotiation between preservation and progress in a city that never stands still. Each image reveals how Lima continually reinvents its identity.
